Sometimes, weekends are so good, you don’t want them to end. That’s how this past weekend was for me.
Thursday evening, I headed to Ash Lawn-Highland to help my friend Tamsyn with the Albemarle County Fair Pageant. I absolutely love helping her with her pageants. And, any excuse to be at Ash Lawn is a good one. It’s the home of President James Monroe and a place I spent a lot of time at as a child while my mom managed the gift shop.
A big storm blew in about 45 minutes before the pageant started and caused all sorts of chaos. The decorations blew away, the backdrop collapsed, papers were carried away by the wind, the new spotlights, right out of the box, didn’t work, and a few of the contestants were soaked head-to-toe. Through it all, Tamsyn at least looked calm, cool, and collected.
In the end, everything came together and five ladies were crowned. I’m already looking forward to helping her with Miss Charlottesville in October!
After work Friday, I spent a couple of hours at the barre studio for leadership training before bouncing over to The Southern – one of my favorite venues in Charlottesville – to catch Sons of Bill’s James Wilson play a solo show. Mariana Bell opened and was lovely. James was great – the music was top notch, as it always is with any of the Sons of Bill, but the banter with his brother Abe who accompanied him was a close second. The show was, of course, stolen by Bill himself when he joined James on a cover of Chris Smither’s “Leave the Light On.”
Saturday, I taught some of my favorite barre girls bright and early before a big group from the studio – instructors, students, friends, all the people – ventured down 250 for what became known as #BarredWineTour2015. Our first stop was King Family Vineyard, one of my favorites. The view is hard to beat, but these people? These are my people. So lucky to call each and every one of them a friend.
We followed King with a short trek to Pollak Vineyards where we attempted a group selfie. No selfie sticks were used in the taking of this photo. Just the tallest person with the longest arm span. Good try, team. Good try.
We ended our #BarredWineTour2015 at Veritas Vineyard, one of my favorites. This is the only photo I have from Veritas and of course, my eyes are closed. But, I’m with two of my favorite people and we are all wearing coral. Just keeping it real.
I made myself go get groceries and dog food before heading home Saturday night. I slept in a bit on Sunday (8:00!) and then went on a wild cleaning binge. I organized the fridge and pantry, deep cleaned my bathroom and kitchen, did laundry – even managed to put it away! – and spot cleaned the carpet before vacuuming. I also did meal prep for the week. I paused in the middle of that to teach another barre class, full of more favorite people.
Every barre class I teach is full of favorite people.
And now, it’s Monday. I think I’m going to like this week as my boss is letting me work from home. A trade off for assigning me a tedious project. I plan to come into the office for the first half of the day, then head home for the second half and work from my balcony.
Or, you know, the pool… There is wi-fi there…
